Good news Everyone!

I'm ready for the next release of Y.A.P.R.M. This release contains lots of smaller improvements and features as the big new thing has been presented already in the intermediate release, namely the better integration in the X Windowing system. But I was not lazy the last months and worked mainly on annoying parts of Y.A.P.R.M. Y.A.P.R.M. is now able to save the view port setup with Y.A.P.R.M. files and recognizes if a Y.A.P.R.M. file is given as command line parameter.

Furthermore I moved from Imlib1 to Imlib2. This allows a new set of functions like an improved color selection dialog and what is really cool you can load images into Y.A.P.R.M. scenes for supporting your modeling. Such supporting images can be put at any place in any orientation just as a normal object.

During the testing phase I identified several memory leaks and other memory access problems. These problems resulted in unexpected crashes of Y.A.P.R.M. They should be fixed now.

So for all of you out there just get it, try it and let me know how you like it. From my side I like the new features and hopefully I can upload a new model within the next weeks.

Enjoy,
Alil

Feature Freeze for Y.A.P.R.M. 0.6

Today I finished the final work on the main features and the major known bugs. Therefore after a final test phase all work for the next Y.A.P.R.M. release is done. If you like check out the latest version from CVS and test it yourself. Any bug report is welcome.

Furthermore the new features allow to add icons on several places. As I'm not really good in drawing icons any icons provided from you are also welcome.

Enjoy,

10 Years of Y.A.P.R.M. - Happy Birthday Y.A.P.R.M.!

With all the work on my PhD thesis and afterwards beeing busy with recreating from it I nearly forgot that I'm already working for more than 10 years on Y.A.P.R.M. I like to use this anniversary to take a look back on this years how all started and how I have come along. When looking now at Y.A.P.R.M. I'm pretty amazed what I achieved.

Back with lots of Ideas

Its done I've got my PhD. After some vacation I had over the Chritsmas days I'm read to work again Y.A.P.R.M. I allready started doing some improvements and lots of ideas are in my head that I like to implement.

One of the hardest will be the POV SDL parser. For the next version I like to at least parse POV files generated by Y.A.P.R.M. I try to keep you updated.

Enjoy
Alil
Update on Y.A.P.R.M.

In the last months it has been very quiet around Y.A.P.R.M. I
like to apologize for this. The reason for this quietness is that I’m currently
finishing my PhD thesis. This costs me lots of time and therefore only little
to no spare time is left for Y.A.P.R.M. However the thesis is nearly done and I’m
already starting making plans for what I will do on Y.A.P.R.M. after the thesis
is finished. Things I’m planning are a new 3D view and a first version of the
POV-Ray SDL parser. The parser should be able to load simple POV-Ray files (reduced
set of objects, no texture descriptions, and no macros). Furthermore I plan to
add more models to the models section of the web-page. If you have any models
feel free to send them to me.

In any case if you need assistance in using Y.A.P.R.M. or
you find bugs let me know.

Enjoy
Alil

Intermediate Release

As allready announced in a previes post I did some test on Y.A.P.R.M. This led me to several smaller bug fixes. Now after several weeks of testing and bugfixing I think it is time to release this for you. As several bugs where rather severe and resulted in crashes and corupted data files.

As always let me know on problems, bugs and any questions.

Enjoy
Alil
Y.A.P.R.M. Bugfixing Weeks

The last weeks I worked on a scene I had in mind and tried to model it with Y.A.P.R.M. I soon found several smaller bugs that I would call show stopper bugs. Also I found one bigger bug in saving Y.A.P.R.M. files including spline objects. Most of these bugs are fixed now and they are allready in the CVS. I will fix a few more and do some testing after that I plane to make a new intermediate release (0.5.6). This release will also contain the first feature of version 0.6: copy paste support for text (within Y.A.P.R.M. but also to other X-apps).

Enjoy
Alil
Planning for Next Steps (version 0.6)

I'm currently planning what I'll do for version 0.6. Lots of things are in my mind. Cool features like a better X-Window integration (copy paste within Y.A.P.R.M. and other X Windows Apps, session handling ...), or a first POV-Ray parser (at least read back POV-Ray files generated by Y.A.P.R.M.) are the first things that came into my mind. But also new POV-Objects like blobs, discs, superellipsoids, etc would be nice. New modelling techniques like the support for NURBS, cloth simulation or fluid simulation would also be great to have.

So as you see lots of ideas and so little time. Therefore I like to ask you what would be nice features that would be great to have in the next version of Y.A.P.R.M. (I think now anonymous user can post).

Thanks for any response,
Alil
Y.A.P.R.M. 0.5.5

After a long time the next official release of Y.A.P.R.M. is done. Lots of improvements and new objects are available with the new version. From the objects side these are mainly a bunch of new poly-objects like 3 and 4 sided coons patches. A further improvement is that different povray render commands can be selected. For distributed rendering the gsPovRay is directly support with its commandline paramters.

As always several bugfixes and improvements have been done to make Y.A.P.R.M. more useable.

I hope you like the new version. If you have any problems let me know.

Enjoy
Alil

Compiling Problems

Via sourceforge`s support request mechanism and the current poll I noticed that some people have problems compiling Y.A.P.R.M. I only got three machines where I do my Y.A.P.R.M. development. On all these machines I run Debian and there Y.A.P.R.M. compiles normaly out of the box.

So I realy would appreciate to get the details why Y.A.P.R.M. is not compiling on our machines. The best way is to drop me an email or to submit it as support request at the sourceforge side.

Thanks for helping to improve Y.A.P.R.M.,
Alil
